General Society of Mayflower Descendants
Our headquarters in Plymouth, Massachusetts, began in 1897 and has over 30,000 members. It grants memberships through 54 societies — all 50 United States, Washington D.C., Canada, Europe, and Australia. The GSMD provides education and research on the Pilgrims and their descendants, and publishes the Silver Books. The Society joins people who share this heritage, thus carrying on the legacy of our ancestors.
California Mayflower Society
The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of California, Inc., established in 1907, has 2,579 members distributed throughout fourteen colonies. The Oakland headquarters has a library that caters to those seeking membership (Apply through the state, not the GSMD in Plymouth). Research assistance is available at local Family History Centers, and genealogy libraries on the Peninsula and in Oakland, as well as online: Family Search and census records, and Patriot to Passenger Project, and Silver Books Database.
Sequoia Colony is one of fourteen California colonies, and has 191 members. It is an educational non-profit organization in Silicon Valley, founded in 1972. Lunch Meetings (in March, July, and November) feature topics of historical interest. March meetings are combined with the San Francisco Peninsula Colony.
